So I wanted to start of this project with a bang. An outfit so fierce, people would think "Wow, that's a blog I'll want to read for the next month." Unfortunately, all fierce outfit ideas flew out the window when I woke up this morning. It's my own fault, I shouldn't have endlessly munched on peanut butter, pretzels, pita chips, and popcorn (I never realized I ate so many foods beginning with the letter "p") while watching The Big Bang Theory until one in the morning. Needless to say, when I woke up this morning, I felt less than amazing.
So today's outfit is good, but not great. But before I even show it to you, I feel I need to explain what I intend to do here this month. For years I was that tomboy girl who hated shopping, owned a large collection of well-worn T-shirts, and owned no make-up with the exception of the occasional tube of Chapstick.
That all began to change about two years ago. I blame Audrey. Audrey Hepburn, that is. Her iconized style, her grace, her poise...I was hooked. I wanted to be her. I admired everything she ever had to say about clothes and I began to realize that not only could wearing a great outfit make you look good, it could make you feel good too.
Flash forward and here I am at university. For those of you not familiar with dorm living, let me enlighten you: space is limited. You get a little closet, little drawers, and a little space under your bed. I had to be sparing in what I brought with me clothes-wise (because I was not budging on bringing an expansive amount of books), but I've discovered that even with only a few items, I can make an endless combination of outfits that make me ready to face the day.
So, here it goes. Day#1 Outfit #1:
Okay, so let me paint a picture for you: It's the first day of October; it's crisp outside and the leaves are hinting at changing, and out on the quad, the Fall Festival is taking place. And then I stroll in wearing this. It's easy, it's comfortable, and it's cute.
I wish I could say that most of these clothes came from different places, but alas, this outfit is pretty much a Forever 21 ensemble. The top, an off the shoulder, cut-off blouse, was on the sale rack at Forever 21 and it called my name. As did that adorable yellow hat. You guys will quickly learn that I love hats, and I'm sure this one will be making another appearance. As for the shorts, they were also purchased at Forever 21, and they actually came with suspenders, which I will probably wear at least once this month, so watch out!
The boots are from Urban Outfitters, one of my favorite shops of all time. They don't have one near where I live, so I only have a few articles of clothing from there that I love to use in different ways. As for the shoes, I adore ankle boots. They go with anything and everything, plus they are perfect for trekking it around campus. I remember when I got these they were all shiny and new, and even if you can't tell from the picture, I have successfully achieved the "scruffed" look for them.
The scarf was a gift. Scarves are probably my favorite accessory ever. I'm not a huge fan of earrings, bracelets, or necklaces (but rings are an ENTIRELY different story). I have a lot of different types of scarves: some like the one I'm wearing that are big and woolly and perfect for Fall. Others are more like ascots, but I'm sure you all will see them in due course. Usually I prefer lighter scarves, but the color of this one against the green and with the mustard hat was something I just couldn't resist.
Finally, notice that I'm smiling. That's key, people. The secret to my success: smile. It completes the outfit.
I'm really excited about this month. I think it will really help push me to get creative with my clothes!
Until tomorrow. Stay classy.
